Why would you buy this tool? The only real reason would be the bottle opener-- Yet it's not the best, taking multiple strokes to open a bottle.
It includes a prybar, and flathead +phillips screwdrivers. The drivers are not exactly ergonomic, and probably too large for anything you'd actually want to use them for (opening a battery compartment on a toy, for instance). Anything the drivers are large enough for would probably have too much torque on them to use such a small tool for anyways. And as far as prying-- I suppose, if you're in the habit of disassembling doll houses randomly it would be useful, but otherwise it's just another quirk of the tool. I don't envision it being useful where a nicely sized knife would do.
And the knife! Oh yes, you will cut yourself. I thought I wouldn't-- just pay attention when opening. For a bit it worked. Then one moment in rushing to use the knife and now my thumb is bleeding. But the concept is amazing! Why keep a knife razor sharp when you could just have a razor? Treat the blade as a last option, and it should be fine. Or you can just remove the blade and do without- always an option. I prefer to keep it as a back up of my primary knife.
So this is the questions-- why has the Artifact replaced my alox victorinox and CRKT little guppie? Both of these are supposedly better.
In the end, it is because I do not need something better-- If I need a knife, I carry a kershaw leek. Another small knife in my pocket is unnecessary-- a razor sharp blade for say, performing a tracheotomy is more useful.
The bottle opener is readily accessible; unlike in other pocket tools it's very easy to access. And that is honestly the primary function of my keychain tool-- Bottle opener first, backup knife if I need it, and last ditch screwdriver if necessary.
The artifact simply gets the priorities straight for me-- that's why I use it. Need the knife more? get an alox victorinox-- they're great. Need to tighten bolts? lil guppie for sure.
